The White House hosted a night of Motown music in honor of Black History Month last night, and First Tween Sasha Obama helped to dance the night away. Video from ABC News is below:
Stars who performed tributes to Motown greats included Nick Jonas (himself no stranger to the Obamas), Natasha Bedingfield, Sheryl Crow, Jordin Sparks, John Legend, and Amber Riley and Matt Salling from the cast of Glee. The President took a great deal of ribbing about his own stiff dance style from emcee Jamie Foxx, but he took it good-naturedly and danced with young Ms. Obama on the stage during "Dancing in the Streets."
As part of the First Lady's new initiative, "The Sound of Young America", Michelle Obama invited 100 local students in Washington to attend an educational workshop at the White House on the history of Motown. You can watch that video here.

A Perfect Birthday Gift For Tweens
Remember our New Year's Resolution post about writing thank you notes? We had a terrific response to that idea, and one company, Expressionery, wrote to tell us about their line of stationery created for tweens. Their cards are fun and customizable, but what we REALLY fell for were their custom Hello Kitty zodiac stamps. How cute is this!?!?
We think this is a perfect birthday gift for the next time your tween has a birthday party to attend - it's personalized, unique, and will be adored by the recipient. We chose one with our name (Ms.Twixt), city (Washington, DC), and our horoscope (Gemini). You could have an entire address printed on the stamp, making it ideal for envelopes, invitations, and customizing school supplies and notebooks (which, come to think of it, will help our tweens stick to another New Year's Resolution to pack and keep the right gear).
The company also makes a fun line of invitations, cards and bookplates featuring the Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, and (our fave) the Wizards of Waverly Place.
Hello Kitty zodiac stamp, $45; flat note cards start at $14/set

Tween Stars Headline Arthur Ashe Kids' Day at the U.S. Open August 28

Also performing are David Archuleta, Cody Simpson, and The School Gryls, and it should be quite a show. The entire day's events include a tennis skills clinic hosted by the USTA and an autograph session with tennis champions in addition to the concert. Last year's show included performances by Justin Bieber and Honor Society.

Jonas Brothers Launch New Tween Network With AOL: Cambio
AOL and the Jonas Group today launched a new tween and teen network today called Cambio. (Jonas Group is the family management firm that handles the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, and the Wonder Girls, and is run by the Jonas Brothers' father.)
Cambio is envisioned as a entertainment and lifestyle network. We're not quite sure how it fits in with JYSK, Just Jared Jr. or Twist, but it seems to be remarkably similar. The site will cover the band's "Road Dogs" softball team, sync up with the launch of Camp Rock 2, and other Jonas activities.

The Jonas Brothers Perform the Beatles: Behind the Scenes at the White House
As reported earlier, the Jonas Brothers were at the White House last month to celebrate Paul McCartney as he accepted the Library of Congress' Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. They covered the Beatles "Baby You Can Drive My Car" while the President, First Lady and First Tweens Malia and Sasha Obama rocked out in the front row of the East Room. This concert will be broadcast on PBS stations tonight as part of the "In Performance at the White House" series, and the White House released the following video footage of the group behind the scenes at the event.

Kids Helping Kids: Project Haiti
The rebuilding and devastation in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti continues, and a youth volunteer organization, Kidz Helping Kids, is throwing a benefit called Project Haiti to help orphans in that country.
The event will be on February 28th in Hollywood, CA (sounds like an under-21 club event, kind of like the scene in Starstruck) and features a concert with Alyson Stoner (Camp Rock), David Henrie (Wizards of Waverly Place), Nathan Kress (iCarly), and Lindsay Taylor (School Gyrls). 100% of the proceeds are going to God's Littlest Angels Orphanage in Haiti, and the organization is seeking donations for the silent auction and raffle. Twixt has made a donation since we cannot be in L.A. for event, and we're so proud to support a tween-sponsored and organized event.
We are in awe of the amazing tween volunteer efforts that have sprung up in the wake of this tragedy: JONAS and Starstruck star Chelsea Staub organized Harmonies For Haiti, Nick created a website in record time that helps kids identify age-appropriate fundraising ideas, organizations to support, and ways to help the people of Haiti, and Selena Gomez is using her bully pulpit as UNICEF's Ambassador to raise awareness and raise funds. Go tweens!

Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato Concert Tonight for Disney's Celebration of Volunteerism Event
Tween stars Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato will perform at a private concert for winners of Radio Disney's Celebrate the Spirit of Volunteering contest. The concert is tonight at Epcot Center, and the stars are slated to perform a duet of their new song, "Make a Wave". Here's a photo that Mr. Jonas shared from his Twitter account.
And Ms. Lovato is tweeting too! Here's her photo from the Italian section of Epcot:
And another photo of the pair and Mickey Mouse (posted by Joe Jonas via Twitter):
This is also the weekend of the big Disney Social Media Moms conference. Sadly we were not on the invite list this year (hint, hint, WDW), but attendees of this conference will also get to see this concert.

Nick Jonas Saving Music Education in Schools - You Can Help!
In tough economic times, school music programs are often the first things cut - and this year is no different. Tween idol Nick Jonas has joined forces with www.DoSomething.org and The VH1 Save the Music Foundation in a campaign to save music education. He is kicking off the Battle of the Bands campaign on Thursday February 4th at 9pm ET on VH1 to see the winners from this fall's Save Our Music campaign and the debut of Nick's PSA (public service announcement) for Battle of the Bands. The PSA will run as part of the Pepsi Fan Jam concert before the SuperBowl (we blogged about Justin Bieber joining this show earlier).
The Battle of the Bands campaign will run from March 1st through April 16th, and YOU will be able to submit your videos of your own musical performances telling him why music education matters to you!
You can join Mr. Jonas and sign up for the mailing list on Save Our Music to get all the updates.

Here's to The King!
Happy belated birthday to Elvis Presley! The King would have been 75 years old on January 8th. Enjoy a peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwich, rumored to have been the King's favorite!
Another Elvis, Elvis Costello, is also in the news today for being a key inspiration to Nick Jonas on his upcoming solo album, Nick Jonas and the Administration. You can read about our coverage of his D.C. concert here.
