Best Tween Movie Heroines of 2010

We loved this article by former Ms. staffer Ann Hornaday in the Washington Post about the best tween and teen movie heroines of 2010. She writes about the breakout acting performances of several actresses and their roles as positive tween girl influences. We agree with many of her picks including Emma Watson as Hermione in "Harry Potter 7: The Deathly Hallows",  Chloe Grace Moretz in "Kick Ass", and Mia Wasikowska in "Alice in Wonderland".

One might also add to this list: Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth in "The Percy Jackson movie" for playing a tough as nails demi-goddess who can hold her own against some might Greeks, and America Ferrera as the voice of Astrid in "How to Train Your Dragon" for a strong female lead who doesn't back down from her own strengths.

Rick Riordan Speaks With Tweens in D.C. About His Newest Book, "The Red Pyramid"

We wrote about Rick Riordan's book talk and signing in Washington here. The author graciously signed more than 1400 books for more than four hours last night at Politics and Prose and answered tweens' questions about his characters, the Percy Jackson movie, and more.

Percy Jackson Movie Party!

Our tweens are SO EXCITED for the Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief movie (opening tonight at midnight!) - are yours?

Here's our guide to the Ultimate Percy Jackson Party:

Blue food!

The tween demi-Gods in attendance can consult the Oracle to see which Greek God will claim her with a sorting quiz.

Make a laurel wreath to wear once she's completed her quest (you'll need a plain plastic headband, olive/dull green foam sheets, scissors, a hot glue gun, and a wreath cookie cutter (to use as pattern to cut out leaves). The girls can also have fun draping themselves in white sheets to create toga looks.

A little bag of chocolate gold coins (drachmas) would make a sweet party favor.

We also found another Percy Jackson party on Make It Do's blog check out the great ideas she had for her son's party.
