Fantastic Interview With Fashion Blogger Tavi (and Look at Her Room!)

Tween Teen fashion blogger and editor-in-chief (of Rookie Mag) Tavi Gevinson recently did a televised interview with the BBC. It is fascinating to hear her in speak about how she started in fashion and with writing and her take on being the youngest editor-in-chief on the planet. The tour of her room is also incredibly fun - it features a loft bed, vinyl records (SO retro), and the general chaos that comes with a girl's life (glitter, photos, stickers, jewelry, momentos, and the like).

We knew the girl could write - now we can all hear how well spoken she is too.  Perfect timing: New York Fashion Week starts February 9, 2012!

Tween Design Picks

In case you hadn't seen our Facebook update, we had a small fire in our house (everyone is safe) and find ourselves doing a bit of re-building and re-modeling as a result. One of the big projects is designing a bathroom for our tween girls. We've been posting our tween design picks and inspiration on Pinterest, a new website that lets you create virtual mood boards. Personally, we're addicted to Pinterest and think you will be too (you've been warned: you will want to spend a lot of time browsing here). We're also posting our Back to School picks for tweens on Pinterest (and we'll still blog about these things - Pinterest just makes it easier to share many photos).  Enjoy!

A Tween Fashionista's Closet: Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka at Home

We've written about the very cute and age-appropriate style of Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka in previous posts, so we are thrilled to share with you a story about her fashionable leanings. Only 11 years old, this tween is already an accomplished actress - Ms.Shipka has earned two SAG and one Emmy Award for her portrayal as Sally Draper, daughter of Betty and Don Draper on the hit show. Coveteur, an online magazine, interviewed the tween actress and published a story about her closet (both what's in it and how she likes to organize it), her newest talent as fashion designer (including the adorable coral tafetta dress below), and her ballet prowess (she's already en pointe).  We have a feeling that we'll be hearing much more about this talented tween in future.

Tallulah Novogratz From Sixx Design Starts Blog For Tweens

You probably know of Tallulah Novogratz from her family's design show on Bravo, 9 By Design. We are huge fans of the show, and our tweens love watching with us. The 12-year old tween and her twin sister, Bellamy, are one of seven children in the brood. Tallulah has as a blog as part of the show in which she discusses the episodes, but last month she launched her own personal blog, Tell Tallulah, where she answers questions asked by other tweens.

About the blog, she says, "I started writing because I love to tell stories and create different kinds of characters.
I often think about a new story during the day and immediately begin writing once I’m home.
Go crazy! Ask me anything! I will answer questions for pre-teens about family, life, friends, school, tv shows, movies, fashion, music, art, photography, writing, travel, and many more.
I’ll begin by sharing a little trivia about myself.  I’m a twin. I’m the third child of seven.  I have a twin sister and five, yes FIVE, brothers. I love the color green, I like writing, photography, drama, sports and art. I love 80’s movies and the tv shows I like are Pretty Little Liars and Glee. Send your questions and comments.  I look forward to hearing from you.
- Tallulah Novogratz"

Some Great Ideas for Tweens' Rooms

We stumbled across these great photos and design ideas for a tween's room on design blog Houzz.com. They have some cool ideas for tweens who share a room, modern/edgy rooms, and very fun colorways.

Designing a Bright, Beautiful Bedroom for a Tween

We just stumbled across an article about interior designer Eileen Kathryn Boyd's own home and were struck by how she had done her tween daughter, Emma's, room - it was bright and colorful and featured Marimekko designs. We thought her approach is a great model for ever-changing tween whims: a bright white interior marked with accent colors with pillows, lamps, and one accent wall.

One idea we particularly loved was using bright grosgrain ribbon along the wall as trim in a tween's room. Take a look here.

First Tweens Are Neatnik Kids

Malia and Sasha Obama, the First Tweens, keep their rooms tidy - or so says the British Prime Minister, David Cameron. Mr. Cameron is in Washington, D.C. to visit with President Obama and got to tour the private quarters. He says that he hopes his two kids, Nancy, age 7, and Arthur, age 4, will take inspiration from the First Tweens.

We have not seen photos of the girls' rooms in the White House, but our tweens would LOVE to know how they've decorated!

More details here.

The Ultimate Tween Bedroom: the Bedroom Makeover on the Set of iCarly

Nick's popular tween t.v. show, "iCarly", stars Miranda Cosgrove as Carly, as the star of her own Internet t.v. show (I know, it's a show about a show . . kind of like "Sonny With a Chance" on Disney Channel. Are you sensing a theme too?). The main set is Carly's living room which is pretty cool on its own - it features those super cute Gummi Bear Night Lights that we wrote about years ago.

Well, now fans will get a first-ever look at Carly's ultimate tween bedroom - the show's latest storyline will be about her current room getting burned down in a brotherly accident and how she gets to set up a new candy-themed tween hangout space.  Our friends at Jellio (who created the Gummi Bear Night Lights) got to work on this set too - check out the Gummi Bear Chandelier! (Note: the chandelier shown on the set is a limited edition large size (31" in diameter), but a smaller version (18" in diameter) is available for sale on the Jellio website. Warning: it comes with a piece of art price tag: $1800, reflecting the months of work it takes the artist to make each one.)

A Gummy Bear Chandelier?!?

OMG - love, love, love the idea of 5000 tiny acrylic gummy bears dancing across our ceilings. Jellio, the company famous for all things hip, cool and sweet (including our best-selling gummy bear night lights), announced that resident artist Kevin Champeny would create 10 of these amazing chandeliers. No word yet on the price, but this is definitely a sweet piece of art (and your dentist/orthodontist won't flinch).

How Cool Would This Be in a Tween's Room?

If you have a budding fashion designer and/or Project Runway addict in your house, your tween would really love this in her room: frame wallpaper. This unique wallpaper has hundreds of frames in all sizes that she can sketch on - kind of like a living portfolio. So go ahead - let her write on the walls. Very cool.

Available from the Land of Nod for $40.

The Cutest Nite Lites!

We've always loved Ikea for their reasonably priced furniture and cool design - and now we can add "cute" to that list. Check out these adorable "ghost" nite lites from Ikea. They come in green, blue and red and fit nicely in the palm of your hand. And at $15 apiece, they won't break the bank - what a great idea for a camp care package! Unfortunately these little gems are not available online, so you'll have to head down to the Ikea nearest you to snag one - but oh, so worth the trip!

GIANT Edible Gummi Bears?!?

OMG - how sweet is this: GIANT edible gummi bears!!! We found someone who creates these treats in lemon, cherry, lime and Astro (a layered version with all three flavors, like those Astro Pops you used to get). Too cool. These would make an awesome centerpiece for a party, or grand prize for party games. What a fantastic complement to our Gummi Bear Nite Lites (to order a Gummi lite, please email us at: info@shoptwixt.com).
