The Best Easter Basket Gifts for Tweens: Glitter Peeps Necklace

We came across this glittery Peeps necklace and think it is the perfect accessory to gild your tween's Easter outfit. We love that it reminds us of our favorite colorful marshmallow but won't upset the orthodontist.

Available at the Peeps Online Store; necklace in pink or yellow glitter $12.90

Tween New Year's Eve Countdown: PEEPS Fest!!

OMG! The 2nd Annual PEEPS Fest is happening on New Year's Eve in Bethlehem, PA! (Makes sense, given that the company that makes PEEPS is headquartered there.) We may need to make a New Year's Eve roadtrip with the tweens.

PEEPS Fest begins December 29, goes through New Year's Eve, and culminates in a PEEPS Chick Drop at midnight. The 3-day extravaganza includes a Peeps diorama contest, Peeps crafts, Peeps s'mores making, a local dessert contest, and a 5-K run (to burn off all that sugar!). Sounds like heaven for us marshmallow fans!

Easter Basket Goodies for Tweens

Our tweens have definitely NOT outgrown the Easter tradition of egg hunts or little treats in their baskets. While they spend most of the hunt helping the little ones, here are some little treats to tuck into your tween's baskets on Sunday:

A tiny but unusual craft kit to make necklaces out of pom-poms in fantastic colors! We LOVE the packaging - it looks like an ice cream cone! $6.99 from CreativeKidstuff

Every tween girl's favorite lip gloss by Lip Smacker in a fun egg case. $4.99 at most drugstores

Zhu Zhu Pets were huge this holiday season, and this year the company has released a Zhu Zhu bunny exclusively through Hallmark stores. List price is $12.99, but we've seen prices
far above that online.

And Peeps of course!
Our favorite ribbon candy comes from Hammonds Candies, a family-owned confectioners in Denver, CO. We toured their factory earlier this month and picked up yummy marshmallow eggs (alright, so we DID sample a few first) and their beautiful mini ribbon candies. $17.99 for 2 five ounce bags from www.HammondsCandies.com

We also include something soft; this year it will be microbead candy pillows like the BubbleYum pillow here. $15.99 from FunToCollect

What items do you include for your tweens?

It's Time for the Annual Peeps Diorama Contest at the Washington Post!

Continuing our Easter theme from earlier this week, the Annual Peeps Diorama contest sponsored by the Washington Post is now open! Entries are due by March 1 (so you only have this weekend to do this project!), so get crafting.  On the Washington Post contest page you can see a gallery of past submission to get inspired, but we think a tween-theme should be easy: what about a Jonas Brothers concert scene (complete with adoring fans)? Or Justin Bieber serenading a lucky girl? What about the First Family at the White House (patriotic Peeps anyone?)?

Let your imagination go wild and send us pics of your entries! We'll post them all here, and we'll run our very first contest: readers can vote for their favorite Peeps entry. The winner shall receive a Peeps chocolate fountain party from Treats by Twixt! We'll follow the same rules as the Washington Post, but with one change: tweens only! All entries must be submitted by kids between the ages of 7 through 12. Parental help is okay, but this has to be YOUR work. Have fun!

National Chocolate Covered Anything Day!

Okay, so this is one of those odd holidays, but what a great excuse to eat chocolate? We wrote recently about the opening of the first ever Peeps store in the Washington area, and we often have a Peeps fondue bar during our candy parties - they are the perfect thing to cover in chocolate!

Peeps Opens First Ever Store Near Washington!

We are HUGE fans of Peeps (who isn't?!?) and are so excited to tour the first ever store devoted to Peeps. It opened December 10th at the Shops at National Harbor and features every kind of Peep shape and color imaginable, Mike and Ikes, and Hot Tamaless, among other candies made by the Just Born company.

The store has a giant color-changing marshmallow Peep presiding over the candy and features Peep art from local artist David Ottogalli. We can't wait to visit!

A Peeps Store is Coming to DC!

To National Harbor, actually, but that's certainly close enough! This will be the first Peeps store ever. It will carry the marshmallow treats but also other Peeps items such as t-shirts, plushies, key chains and the like - even Peeps china by Lenox! We can't wait!
