DC tweens were part of the select audience to witness the inclusion of First Lady Michelle Obama's inaugural gown into the Smithsonian Museum's permanent collection yesterday. The event took place at the Smithsonian's Museum of American History, and students from Huntington High School in Washington were on hand to attend. The students enjoyed a private audience with the First Lady before the ceremony, and one excited young girl walked away saying, "I'm not washing my hand again!"
Designer Jason Wu also attended, as did designer Tory Burch (our friend Deborah Lehr (co-designer of the Peggy Quish line) and her daughter, Alexandra Rogers, are photographed with Ms. Burch below).
The gown is now on view to the public as part of the Museum's permanent collection, "The First Ladies." The nice staff at the Smithsonian also sent us this video of a behind-the-scenes view of this popular collection:
