First Tweens Host a Star Party
First Tweens Malia and Sasha Obama celebrated World Space Week by inviting astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Sally Ride and 150 DC school children to a "star party" at the White House this week.
The White House South Lawn was transformed into an astronomy classroom with twenty telescopes set up by NASA staff. Party guests viewed the moon's craters, Jupiter and its moons, and several other stars. Guests also enjoyed "other space-themed activities", but no word on whether astronaut ice cream from Air and Space Museum was served.
2009 is also the International Year of Astronomy marking the 400th anniversary of Galileo's use of the telescope.
